1. How should I prepare for class?
Go to the “Study Material” page on this website. There are directions to get to the AHA student website. There you will find study material and a pretest.

2. What should I bring to class with me?
You must bring proof that you completed the AHA pretest. Also, if you are taking a re-certification class, you must bring your current and valid AHA card. If your card has expired, AHA requires that you take a full-certification class.

3. How do I download Michele’s iPhone app?
Open MicheleKunz.com on the iPhone, touch the “+” sign on the bottom bar, and “add to home screen”. Then name it “Michele”, touch the “return” button and you are done. The app should then appear on your iPhone screen.

4. What should I do when I receive my cards in the mail?
You must sign the back of each card, and then make a photocopy (both sides) for your own records. Then you must bring the original card into your hospital or medical office and have them make a photocopy for them to keep.

5. What if I don’t receive my cards in the mail?
Simply email me and tell me. I will then order you a new card. Please allow 45 days to pass from the date of your class before asking for a new card. Our CTC can sometimes take up to 30 days to get the cards to us. And the mail service can take from 2 days to 10 days to deliver. Sometimes the envelope comes back to me, after 30 to 90 days, as “undeliverable”. Then I will email you and ask you for your new or corrected address. But we have found that most of the time, the envelope is simply overlooked, or someone else in the household has the envelope, or the letter-carrier stuck the envelope into other mail. Please check these before asking for another card.

6. The check that I gave to Michele  has bounced (NSF). What should I do?
You will need to send me a new check to cover the class fee – plus the $20.00 fee my bank charges me. Even if your bank charges you a fee, you still need to reimburse me the fees my bank charged me. If you bank makes a mistake, and therefore does not charge you a fee, my bank still charges me a fee.

7. I forgot to bring my checkbook to class. Where should I send my check?
You can make the check out to “Michele Kunz”, and send it to me in the envelope we give you in class.

8. My name is spelled incorrectly on  my card. What can I do about it?
Send me the card and I will order you a new one.

9. How long are my AHA certification cards valid for?
The ACLS, BLS, and PALS certification cards are valid for 24 months. All AHA course cards are valid for 2 years through the end of the month in which the card was issued. For example, if you took ACLS on 08/02/12, you card is valid until 08/31/14.

10. I lost my card, can I get another one?
Yes. I can fax or email you a copy for free;
mail you a photocopy for $5; or,
order you a new replacement card for $20.

11. I am not getting a reminder notice from you about my cards expiring. Why not?
The most likely reason is that your address has changed and I don’t have your current address. Please email me a message with your current address. Please make sure you put your full name in the email.

12. As a student, when should I start taking ACLS, BLS, and PALS?
Usually, the school requires BLS prior to starting the clinical part of your studies.  Many schools may offer BLS as part of the curriculum. However, you will need BLS certification when applying for a nursing position for internship or after graduating.  The advanced courses, such as ACLS and PALS, look good on your resume but are not usually required to get hired. If looking for entry position into a critical care area, ACLS is usually required.

13. What if I fail the written exam?
You can come back and repeat the class on another date, take the entire class again, and take the exam again – for no additional fee.

14. I haven’t taken an ACLS class in many years – and now my hospital requires it.  What should I study before taking your class?
For the ACLS class I want you to study EKG.  I want you to get the AHA textbook for ACLS or the ECC Handbook, and review it.  I also want you to take the pre-test that is on the AHA student website.  Keep re-taking this exam until you get them all right. You can email me with any other ACLS and EKG questions about something you don’t understand.

15. I have been out of nursing for several years, and would like to take your ACLS and BLS class to prepare myself to re-enter the workforce – and I am afraid that these classes will be too difficult for me to pass. Do you have any suggestions?
Yes. I will give you my study-guides which make learning and preparing for the class and test a pleasure. Also, I provide plenty of help and guidance the day of the class.  Also, taking a basic-EKG-interpretation class helps with understanding and passing the ACLS class.

16. Do I need to complete BLS before taking ACLS or PALS?
AHA does not require one to have BLS certification before taking ACLS or PALS.  Usually the hospital or facility where you work requires BLS as a minimum requirement to keep your job.  An EKG class would certainly facilitate success in an ACLS program.

17. Do all physicians need to complete ACLS, BLS, or PALS?
Any practitioner participating in moderate sedation is required to be certified in BLS and ACLS.  PALS is also required for practitioners dealing with children.

18. Will you come to our office to teach us ACLS, BLS, and PALS?
Yes. Email me to discuss dates, times, and prices.

19. My hospital needs proof that I took your class and passed. What should I do?
I give everyone a payment receipt after taking the class. If this is not enough for your hospital, I can email you or your hospital a letter stating that you attended and passed the class. Your hospital is welcome to call me anytime on my cell phone.
